Spc Fire Academy - Proud of St. Petersburg Public Safety and Fire Training Center for hosting the 1157th, 199th, and 200th Army National Guard Fire Units from Ft. Carson in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The training took place at the facility from August 5 to 12, 2019 with a total of 13 guards.
After contacting the Strategic Planning Committee in November 2018, they requested a comprehensive program covering the essential elements of structural firefighting to be implemented through the use of lectures, exercises, and firefighting scenarios. This training requirement is to meet the two weeks of annual training required by the Colorado Army National Guard. As a result, the SPC Fire and Public Safety Training Center has developed and delivered an 8-day course, Fireground Operations and Tactics.

Thirteen members of Ft. Carson units take the course, which is taught by Master Fire Academy and on-duty instructors who are subject matter experts in their field. Most instructors are currently employed by local fire departments. They are involved in every aspect of program delivery, as well as curriculum development, taking into account each member's level of experience and background, and curating each subject to suit their needs.

The program covers a wide range of topics, including forced entry, ventilation, search and rescue, safety and security, etc. Also included are basic skills such as a breathing apparatus (SCBA), hose, ladder, and live-fire burn. In keeping with current trends in firefighter safety and behavioral health, lectures on the importance of decontamination, post-traumatic stress disorder, cancer awareness and mental health have been added to the curriculum.
At the end of the training, the students expressed that they were very satisfied with the program and the quality of the teaching. They were very receptive to all the information given to them and even shared their knowledge, including tips and techniques on various topics, with our SPC instructors. We are excited to have the opportunity to train such an outstanding group and are delighted that they have chosen St. Training Center of the Petersburg College of Fire and Public Safety!
